Future of mycelium alternative materials

summary 01

Mushroom mycelium-based leather, styrofoam,
and mycelium protein are excellent alternatives
to the problem of greenhouse gases that destroy
the Earth as follows.

Global warming occurs because greenhouse gases cover the Earth like blankets.
Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrogen fluoride, perfluorocarbon(PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride.

Carbon dioxide accounts for the largest amount of greenhouse gases generated by human activities.
Carbon dioxide is mainly caused by the combination of carbon generated when burning fossil fuels such as oil and coal with oxygen in the atmosphere.
Methane, which has a lower emission than carbon dioxide but a higher warming index than carbon dioxide, occurs a lot in the agricultural and livestock industries. It comes from cattle burps, farts, and livestock manure.
Nitrous oxide is mainly accumulated in the atmosphere when fertilizers are used.

The energy we use, numerous chemicals and food are the main culprits of warming.

In reality,
there are many sub-steps of the process.
But this model provides a good overview
in terms of how fungi grows from birth
to death.

1. Spore PhaseMushroom spores are tiny microscopic reproductive units that are produced by fungi (as well as some types of plants and algae). You can think of the spore phase as both the beginning and end of a mushroom’s life.
On one hand, a mushroom has fulfilled its purpose once it has fully matured and released its spores.

A mature mushroom will almost immediately begin to decompose after this process is done.
However, mushroom spores also represent the new life for the next generation of mushrooms.
Spores are carried via wind or water until they ultimately settle on a surface with favorable conditions to start growing.
